Deck Railing
Installation

Install code-compliant deck railings that protect your family and define your outdoor space. We work with aluminum balusters, cable systems, glass panels, and composite materials—matched to your deck's style and your budget.

Railings Built to Code, Designed to Last

Deck railings serve two purposes: safety and style. Minnesota building code mandates railings on any deck surface 30 inches or more above grade, with specific requirements for height, baluster spacing, and structural load capacity. We install railings that meet or exceed all code requirements while matching your deck's aesthetic.

Our railing systems use powder-coated aluminum balusters, composite or PVC post sleeves, and stainless steel fasteners rated for exterior use. Every component resists Minnesota's freeze-thaw cycles, UV exposure, and moisture—no annual painting or staining required.

  • 36" or 42" heights (code-compliant)
  • Aluminum, composite, and PVC materials
  • Cable, glass, and traditional baluster infills
  • Powder-coated finishes in 20+ colors
  • Retrofit installation on existing decks

Minnesota Deck Railing Requirements

All deck railings we install meet Minnesota Residential Code requirements. Here's what the code specifies:

Railing Height

Minimum 36" for decks up to 30" above grade. Minimum 42" for decks more than 30" above grade. Measured from deck surface to top of rail.

Baluster Spacing

Maximum 4" between balusters (a 4" sphere cannot pass through). This prevents children from getting stuck or falling through openings.

Load Capacity

Rails must withstand 200 lbs concentrated load or 50 lbs/ft distributed load. Posts must resist lateral loads without deflection exceeding code limits.

Graspable Handrail

Stairs require a graspable handrail (1.25" to 2" diameter) continuous along the full stair length, extending beyond top and bottom risers.
